The Cataloochee Valley area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a short drive from Deer Country. The historic valley is dotted with farms, churches, and homesteads that have been protected that date back to before the area was a park. It is also the site of the very successful reintroduction of elk to the area and the heard can be seen often in the open fields at sunrise and sunset.
